Glebe Point Road 1 – the beginning

Glebe is an inner city area just to the west of the CBD. I lived there at various times (and in varying circumstances) between 1977 and 1988. Some of the images which will fill out this series reflect places that were of significance to me in those years. I’ll give a word of explanation when the time comes.

The first set of images were taken in the area bounded by Broadway/Parramatta Road, St John’s Road, and Forest Lodge. Forest Lodge was my last Glebe address, 1987-early 1988.

  1. ooh … goodo … I love to see someone else’s view of a suburb that I know – sort of know. Where is the plaque for Dave Sands? Your shot of the intersection itself is particulary clear. Like it.

The Google-view reminds me that St Johns joins with the abbey that is now a restaurant. Could it be that the park on the cnr of GPR and Bridge Rd used to be the cemetery for St Johns? Suspiciously like it from the aerial view. My son lives a coupla streets away: I get over there a lot. Will take a wander down there during my lunch hour and check out the abbey.

Ready for more when you are jeeves …

  2. The Abbey used to be the Presbyterian Church.

The Dave Sands plaque is just to the right of where I was standing to take the intersection shot.

  3. I lived in Glebe Point Rd in 1978 – down the bottom at GP. And frequented it (and the Forest Lodge pub) btw 1975 and 1978.
